For her, the simple task of doing her laundry at home one evening, suddenly turned into a frightening emergency. Saved by security
According to Ms. Bergeron, she had begun doing laundry, then stepped out for a bit. Upon her return, she immediately knew something was wrong when she heard her smoke alarms and then saw smoke rising from her washing machine. Reacting quickly, she dialed 911.

Firefighters arrived on the scene in record time, preventing the situation from escalating.

Lesson learned
This experience taught Ms. Bergeron a valuable lesson that we should all learn: Never leave your home while certain appliances are in use. Major appliances that combine heat and moving parts – such as a washer, dryer or dishwasher – should not be operated unattended. If Ms. Bergeron had not had a GardaWorld monitored alarm system – or if she had not returned home when she did – damages could have been much greater.
But this time, vigilance and GardaWorld's rapid response were decisive in avoiding a catastrophe.
